! Important Information About the T-Mobiltat Card
If you’re planning to use public transport in Barcelona, it’s useful to know about the T-Mobiltat card. This card is used to store tickets like T-Casual or T-Familiar. Upon the first purchase, there’s an extra charge of €0.50 for the card, which is valid for 6 months. Once the tickets are used up, instead of buying a new card, you can simply recharge it.
The card is equipped with a chip, allowing you to tap it on readers in buses or the metro. An added benefit is the ability to pair the card with the TMB App, making it easier to purchase tickets directly via your smartphone – though this may not be convenient for everyone.
Where Can You Buy the T-Familiar Ticket?
Purchasing the T-Familiar ticket is incredibly simple and available in many locations around Barcelona. I personally bought mine from a ticket machine at a metro station, but you can also get it at TMB (Transport Metropolità de Barcelona) sales points and kiosks scattered throughout the city.
The ticket machines are very user-friendly and available in several languages, so even if you don’t speak Spanish, it’s easy to navigate. Just select the “T-Familiar” option and pay by card or cash.
If you prefer modern solutions, the T-Familiar ticket can also be purchased through mobile apps like the TMB App or App Store Barcelona. This option is convenient, especially if you don’t want to wait in line or search for a machine. After purchase, the ticket is saved on your phone, so you don’t have to worry about losing it.
My tip? If you’re at El Prat Airport, it’s best to buy the ticket right away from a metro station machine or a kiosk. That way, you’re ready to go from the moment you arrive in Barcelona!
T-Familiar vs. Hola Barcelona – Which is More Cost-Effective?
When planning my stay in Barcelona, I wondered which ticket would be more affordable: T-Familiar or Hola Barcelona. Both have their advantages, but depending on your travel plans, one may be a better choice.
T-Familiar Ticket
As mentioned before, the T-Familiar provides 8 rides, which can be shared with others. If you’re planning a short stay and don’t expect to use public transport extensively, T-Familiar could be a great solution. Sharing the ticket with others can help reduce costs, while still providing convenient access to the city’s transport. Plus, if you plan to mix walking with public transport, T-Familiar works well because you’re not limited to a set number of days.
Hola Barcelona Ticket
On the other hand, Hola Barcelona offers unlimited rides within a set time period – you can choose from 2, 3, 4, or 5 days. This is an excellent option if you plan to use public transport intensively, such as visiting attractions in various parts of the city. With this ticket, you can ride as much as you want, which gives you a lot of freedom, especially if you have a packed schedule.
